UB 480

Type of vessel - VIIC German U-boat

How sunk – presumed mined

Former names – None

Wreck height - 6m

‘UB-480’ was the first ever U-boat to be coated in a 4mm thick layer of ‘Alberich’, a rubber coating designed to neutralise being detected by British ships. Reports were successful, but then sometime after 24 February 1945 she is presumed to have been mined by a deep minefield. All hands were lost.

The wreck lies upright and is damaged at the stern, presumably by a mine. The rubber coating is still evident on her hull.
