Travelling from Newhaven for Cherbourg with a large cargo of coal, drums of cresol oil and case goods the ‘Tweed’ slowed to allow another ship to take her place in the convoy, when she was torpedoed by UB-59. 13 of her 20 crew were rescued by escorting trawlers.

The wreck sits upright, although she has collapsed to starboard in places. The engine lies to starboard.
