The ‘HMS Sona’ was a private motor yacht taken into the admiralty. At the time of sinking she was used as an accommodation ship. Sunk alongside Poole quay she was later raised and towed out to Handfast point. Her remains were dumped in the same area as those of ‘Prinses Juliana’ and ‘Abel Tasman’. The area was known as ‘The Yards’.

The wreck now stands no more than 1m in shallow water and is heavily encrusted in marine growth.
