The unarmed ‘SS Espagne’ was torpedoed by UC-71 while travelling in ballast from Le Havre for Newport. Only 3 of her 24 crew survived.

The wreck now lies to starboard. She is quite heavily broken. The engine lies on it’s side and is covered in shingle. The rudder and propeller are still visable, with the spare propeller partly buried nearby.
