Clarinda

Clarinda

Type of Vessel – Steam ship with sails

How sunk – Collision with SS Tern

Former names – None

Wreck height  - 5m

Travelling from Cardiff to Cronstadt with a cargo of coal, when she was struck amidships by the overtaking ‘SS Tern’. There is some confusion as to why the ‘SS Tern’ hit the ‘SS Clarinda’ as it was a clear night. All crew were picked up by the ‘SS Tern’.

The wreck lies upright, but broken and much of her hull plating has collapsed outwards and sitting away from the main body of the wreck. The two boilers and engines are the highest parts.
